Shih Tzu Color Change

Shih Tzu Color Change

Before You Buy Your Shih Tzu

Know this. When your Shih Tzu is a puppy they tend to change colors. From darker to lighter. Take a look at my Shih Tzu, Luna, as she progresses in age. From 8 1/2 weeks to 10 months.

This is Luna the first day we got her.
8 1/2 weeks old.
As you can see she has a brown body, black ears, black face and two white paws. Also a little black on the top of her head.

Luna on Christmas day
9 weeks
Little did I know that this color will all change.

Luna has some color change
3 1/2 months old.
As you can notice her face as changed in color. The black on the top of the head is now gone and turned to solid brown.

Luna After her first puppycut.
4 1/2 months.
I think the shadow intensifies the black beard because she never had that, but as you can tell the hair on the top of the head is now turning a lot lighter.

Luna two months after her first puppycut.
6 months old
As you can tell, goodbye brown hair on the top. The ears are still brown and the black tips but for the most part, the biggest color change we saw so far.

Luna after getting spayed
7 months old.
Right after she got spayed. She still has that same black face but the head is now a very light gold, almost white. The body has gotten a lot lighter over the months as well.

Luna Not wanting us to leave
9 1/2 months old
No mommy don't leave me. Her face lightened up and everything else stayed about the same. I think her color changed has slowed down for the most part.

Luna
10 months old
Nothing different from 9 1/2 months but just a look at her face.

When we bought her (8 1/2 weeks old) to when I'm writing this blog (10 months)

Is this the same dog?

As you can see Luna has gone through some serious color change. From a dark brown color in the pet store to this light golden color now. We call her the golden dog.

Getting this dog I was clueless about the color change that occurs. But it doesn't matter what she looks like, still the best dog I've ever owned.

Did your shih tzu change in color as well?
